Dan Froot - Performer

DAN FROOT received a 1991 BESSIE award for the creation of his music/theater work SEVENTEEN KILOS OF GARLIC. Dan's music concerts, theater pieces, performance events have been presented across the U.S. and Europe by leading arts centers, including Dance Theater Workshop, La MaMa, Performance Space 122 and The Danspace Project in New York. Dan has composed numerous scores for dance and theater companies, has taught performance workshops around the country, has created an ongoing series of collaborative duets with choreographer David Dorfman, and has danced, acted and played music nationally and internationally with the likes of Victoria Marks, Ralph Lemon, Yoshiko Chuma & The School of Hard Knocks, Mabou Mines, David Cale, Ping Chong & Co., Dan Hurlin, and the legendary Jeff Weiss. Currently Dan teaches at UCLA's Department of World Arts and Cultures. He was awarded a 2000-01 City of Los Angeles Artist Fellowship and a playwriting commission from the National Foundation for Jewish Culture for his gangster-Vaudeville, Shlammer, which will premiere at Los Angeles Theater Center on June 22 and 23, 2001.
